The Dreaded Letter from HMRC, or Is It?

The Dreaded Letter from HMRC, or Is It?

The digital revolution has made huge changes to our lives and opened many new avenues to everyone, including fraudsters.  There has been a massive increase in fraudsters posing as HMRC to obtain payments and/or personal details.  We are all becoming used to these frauds but the general fear people have of demands from HMRC increases the chance that inadvertently people may fall into the hands of the fraudsters.

There is a substantial general guidance by banks etc on how to avoid these frauds but HMRC are also very aware of the issue and have revised their guidance on recognising valid correspondence with HMRC.

The guidance can be found at Dealing with HMRC: HMRC phishing and scams – detailed information – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
